 Once is a while there's a fashion moment that puts a little smile on even the sternest fashion editors faces. As Alber Elbaz celebrated the tenth anniversary of his tenure at Lanvin, the fashion crowd, which included Tilda Swinton and Dita Von Teese, were bought to their feet and even sang along to 'Que Sera, Sera'. The Observer's fashion editor Jo Jones gives a front row exclusive.

Sarkozy not at home amongst the Basques

Nicolas Sarkozy penned into bar after being heckled on France presidential election campaign 

 



Riot police had to break up a crowd of dozens of left-wing supporters, and some Basque separatists, after French President Nicolas Sarkozy arrvied to campaign in Bayonne ahead of April's presidential race.

Rebels flee, French troops captured by army

Syrian opposition forces say they've withdrawn from a key neighborhood in the embattled city of Homs. Government forces have been trying to take over the area, saying it's used as a base by armed militants. All this while the country waits for the arrival of Kofi Annan, the new UN and Arab League envoy, who's vowed to stop the killing and start dialogue.
